Discussed

Privacy Policy

Effective date: April 5, 2026

Discussed is a browser extension that helps you find online discussions about the pages you visit. This policy explains what data the extension accesses and how it is used.

What the extension accesses

Discussed reads the URL of your current browser tab to check whether discussions exist for that page. No other browser data is accessed.

External services

When checking for discussions, the extension sends the current page URL to these services:

  • Hacker News (via Algolia Search API)
  • Reddit (via Reddit search API)
  • Lobsters (via Lobsters API)

Before contacting any API, the extension uses a locally stored Bloom filter to check whether a discussion is likely to exist. The Bloom filter is downloaded from GitHub Releases. No user data is sent during this download.

AI summarization

The optional AI summary feature sends discussion comment text to the LLM provider you choose (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic), using an API key that you provide. Your API key is stored locally in your browser and is never transmitted to any server other than your chosen LLM provider.

Data collection

Discussed does not collect, store, or share any personal data. There is no backend server, no analytics, no tracking, and no telemetry. All extension data stays in your browser.
